I’m considered a key worker in my day job, can I leave my key worker job and volunteer as a Special instead?
As a key worker already, your job is considered vital in the Covid 19 response. You can volunteer for SC duties outside of your normal work hours, however it is recommended that you give your paid role a higher priority in the current climate.
Are Special Constables Key Workers? Are my children able to attend school if I am volunteering as a Special Constable?
The government advice is to only access the keyworker provision if it is absolutely necessary. At the moment the majority of forces are not asking Special Constables to leave their paid employment and volunteer for us full time, so using this provision would not be necessary. If you are working for the force in a full time capacity then the interpretation is that Special Constables are key workers and could therefore access the schools’ provision. Be sure that you are on duty during school hours if you are attempting to access the school provision.
